Day 30 "A Friend"

No, this picture wasn't taken today. It's from a trip to Texas that I took with my BFF, Tanya, in...oh, god...1990-ish. We were all tarted-up and ready for a night out with a couple'a local boys.

I remember so much about that night, but my favourite memory (besides getting carnations from our dates) was at the mid-point of the evening (aka 1am) when we snuck back into the house to change out of our dresses and into jeans for an impromptu trip to Mexico*. We were in the pitch black of the guestroom at Tanya's grandparents' place, trying SO hard to be quiet, when all of a sudden I heard "shwwwt, shwwwt, owwwww" It was the sound of Tanya removing her stick-on bra. Apparently, the best way to do it is quickly...like a bandaid. Or, rather, two.

*Clearly, Tanya and I lacked good judgement at 18 and 17 years old, respectively.

Day 28 "On the Shelf"

For a girl who eats only unsweetened "natural" peanut butter, this stuff is craaaazy.

Day 29 "Soft"

Soft. 'nuff said.

Day 27 "Bathroom"

How about no?

(em)POWER(ed)

Several months ago, I was asked to take part in a photoshoot at the Reh-fit Centre for their annual Power magazine. During the session, I gave a little interview about my activities at the centre. After a seemingly endless wait for the magazine to come out, I am happy to finally be able to share the article with you here:

"Now my son has to keep up with me" (pages 12 & 13)

In addition to the article in Power, my photo was also used on the cover of the summer program guide. I don't know if I have posted it here before; if so, here it is again...

Day 26 "Where You Shop"

My fella says that I shop here because I like to pay more for kale. He suggested that I buy my kale at Superstore, but everybody knows that the kale there has been on the floor at least once. I will pay the extra buck for non-floor kale, thankyouverymuch.

Also, the squash cookies from Organza are faaaabulous...and Galen hasn't figured out how to mass produce them and slap his PC logo on them yet. When he does, I might give up my Organza habit.

Oh, who am I kidding? No, I won't. Organza FTW!

Day 25 "Cute"

My strawberry plants have been very prolific in their production of tiny, perfectly heart-shaped strawberries this year. Some of them have even made it into the house.

Do the Wave

By now most of you have heard about my big hair make-over several weeks ago on Breakfast Television after winning the Real Canadian Hair Challenge. What you may not know, however, is that immediately after the BT live eye wrapped up, my hair was washed, taken back to "before", and styled all over again for the cameras. The result was this webisode:

I still can't get through the full 1:53 without blushing, giggling, and rolling my eyes at myself (Do I really sound like that??), but I have nothing but the happiest memories about that day and the whole experience in general. Dove Canada treated me like an absolute star and Mark Townsend made me feel so comfortable and pampered. I left with gorgeous hair, a TON of product, and a memory that will last a lifetime.

And, possibly the best "before" picture in the history of challenged hair.

Office Space

For weeks I have been doing my work from my little suitcase desk. Cute, yes, but nearly impossible to spread out and really get things done. I have a full-sized desk in my basement, but the key word there is "basement". Teenagers might love subterranean living, but I prefer it up here with the sunshine and fresh air.

The other day, while on a full-scale garage clean-up, I discovered this little vintage desk hidden under a pile of cabinet door fronts and pillow forms (don't ask). I had purchased the desk almost 2 years ago for $40 from the MCC furniture store with the intention to tart it up and sell it at the old Mozy Rue store. I had forgotten how cute it was! Of course, I immediately decided that it had to come inside.

I am so happy with how it fits into the little corner beside the couch. It is not only the perfect spot for me to do my work at my laptop, it also has enough room to hold the phone (hold the phone!), my charging station, and, hidden in the drawers, a ton of cables, office supplies and small electronics. And I didn't have to do anything to it, other than a quick wipe-down.

Now to make-over another corner of another room to find a home for the suitcase desk...
