Cheap Like Paper

Last night I stopped at Michaels to use my 50% off coupon on yet another pack of pinbacks. Of course, I had to check out the paper while I was there. Of course I did...even though it's always the same-old stuff down the paper aisle. This time, though, I went down a different aisle and discovered that they were clearing out their K&Co printed paper packs and mat pads.

I ended up with: one 12x12" double-sided paper pack, FIVE 5x7" double sided mat pads (love the mat pads), and two tag pads (new to me, but kinda cool)...all for $25! The deals were already great and then they applied my coupon to the big paper pack, which was already reduced to $7.98. Yowsa!

I can't wait to get my scissors into the new papers. There are some really fun prints in there that will make awesome pins. And, since they are all double sided, I will have a TON of variety for my Fringe Fest stock. Now I just have to come up with some fun words & quotes to go with!

Celebrate!

On Thursday, June 25th, the Costume museum of Canada is celebrating 2 years in Winnipeg. (From 1983 to 2007 the museum was located Dugald, MB, and in 2007 moved to its new location at 109 Pacific Ave. in Winnipeg.) They will be celebrating with free admission to the public from 10am to 10pm, free birthday cake and coffee all day, as well as memberships on sale for a reduced fee of $19.30! Also, at 7pm they will have the official opening of their new 1930's exhibit. A prize will be awarded to the person who comes dressed in their best 1930's outfit.

What's next?

Psst...wanna buy some crafts?

The Winnipeg Etsy street Team (W.E.S.T.) is having a "Boot SALE" on Wednesday, July 15th from 6:30pm until...who knows!

We'll be filling up our car trunks, bike trailers, & possibly wheelbarrows with crafty wares. I don't know who will show up or what they will bring, but I can guarantee you that it will be good! (Of course it will...I'll be there!)

The sale will be popping up somewhere in Winnipeg, but the exact location will be kept a secret until the day of the sale.

Stay tuned or message me for more info!
Wow! What a weekend. Friday night was the screening of Handmade Nation at the Ellice Theatre. I was selling my stuff before and after the show and the response was great! I made some great sales, saw some familiar faces, and made some new connections. It's really great to be surrounded by people who share a common interest and passion for art and craft and all things handmade. As an artist and a crafter, it really makes it worthwhile to know that there are people out there who "get" and appreciate my work.

On Saturday, I hosted a Craftacular yard sale at my house. Despite tons of advertising and promotion, the turn-out wasn't quite what we were expecting. We were hoping for good weather and I think we hoped *too* hard. It was a flat-out gorgeous day....and Winnipeggers are very selfish about their nice days. I'm sure the parks were full...my yard, not so much. BUT, that said, I did make a couple bucks and got to spend the day with 5 terriffic girls and 2 awesome guys. And I definitely want to try it again before giving up on the idea.

Handmade Nation

Film Screening & DIY Craft Sale
Friday, June 19, 2009
7 pm - DIY Craft Sale 7:30 pm - Screening
Ellice Theatre - 585 Ellice Ave, Winnipeg
Admission $5

Handmade Nation documents a movement of artists, crafters and designers that recognize a marriage between historical techniques, punk and DIY ethos while being influenced by traditional handiwork, modern aesthetics, politics, feminism and art. Fueled by the common thread of creating, Handmade Nation explores a burgeoning art community that is based on creativity, determination and networking.

In 2006, first-time director Faythe Levine traveled to 15 cities, interviewing 80 individuals. Levine captured the virtually tight-knit community that exists through websites, blogs and online stores and connects to the greater public through independent boutiques, galleries and craft fairs. Interviews were also conducted in artists’ studios and homes of the featured makers. (2009 release, 65 minutes)

DIY Craft Sale featuring work by Kelly Ruth, Leigh-Ann Keffer, Jenny Henkelman, Kylie Stomp, Allison Moyer, Roy Liang, Barb Morton, Dallas Jasper and Rebecca Hadfield.

This event is co-sponsored by the Manitoba Crafts Council, Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library, Art from the Heart, Ace Art, MAWA and the Wpg DIY Festival

Summer Yard Sale Craftacular!

I am organizing a Craftacular yard sale later this month...just like a “regular” craft sale, but outside in the sunshine rather than down in some stuffy church basement. I think it will be lots of fun...and a great way to support local crafters while shopping for completely unique stuff.
The sale will be on Saturday, June 20 from 11am to 2pm. (The day before Father's day!) If the weather is miserable (which it won't be!) we're looking at a rain-date of Sunday the 28th. (But the 20th will be warm and sunny and lovely, so that's a moot point!)

I'm right in the heart of the Corydon Village area with easy bus-access and plenty o' parking. We are hoping to have a dozen or so crafters, plus my son will be running an old-school lemonade/cupcake stand. Watch this space for the address and more updates!
